I would say around a four, I really strive to improve upon my previous works and lean something every time I make a new piece, but I don't let it take over my life.

Art is so challenging is my concern. My art isn't very good and when I try to draw things, I freak out and get mad at myself because I dislike my art.

If this counts writing, animating, or music, then 5. If this is limited to pictorial art, then 1.

I'm not an artist and never wanted to be so I choose 1.

I want to be good at art but I fail every time, but for some reason, I carry on.

I am an artist and if I stuck with it long enough I'd get pretty good. But with classes and my job I cant invest too much time.

eyesight makes it hard to draw anymore.

I write because some themes are dear to my heart. I do not wish to publish my stories for a price, for I believe that art should be free, for it is our only escape or comfort from life. I write not to be famous, but so that even only one person can wake up, and at her turn, wake one of her friends, and so on.

I'm like a 2. I just draw stuff during class while we're not doing anything but listening to the teacher talk. I like to share what I make, though.

Ambition is not based on financial success or published pieces in your lifetime obviously since even in the 20th century most artist were not appreciated till after their demise. I'm not much of a traveler but have seen sights that have pushed my own ambition, just have to be aware! Recently discovered the Watts Towers on Public TV show called Artbound, Talk about unappreciated artistic ambition, Approaching life as art is an ambition in itself and every move you make throughout the days of your life have a lasting effect as any masterpiece in any museum.

i don't want it as a job because I think it will end up more like a chore than something you enjoy, it is the only thing that relaxes me and the only way I can get my ideas out I LOVE ART

I think 5 is a psycho-artist, 4 is artist, 3 is something more than hobby, 2 is hobby and 1 is "i have ambitions but I'm lazy" :D

I have myself, found my niche in photography, and while I'm constantly improving and advancing, photography is not my day job.  I do edge close and closer to making money back off of the hobby, I don't have as much time to devote to it as I would if I did photography full time.

I am not sure of my ambition... I have so many ideas in my head.. but not enough strength to actually grab a pen/pencil and put them on paper.. I am constantly "thinking" of my ideas instead of "acting" on them.. I think it's because I just feel it won't be good enough or something.. :/

The problem is that ambition can be interpreted in two ways: the first is ambition as in "I have high ambitions for my career as an artist". The other is "I'm ambitious with my projects and expect a lot of myself". In the first, I would be a zero. I don't in any way have ambitions of becoming a professional artist. But in the second, I would be a strong four.
Another thing is that having amibitions is not the same as being successful and fulfilling those ambitions. A lot of people (myself often included) have a strong inner vision of what they want to achieve with their picture/art, but not always the skills or means to make those visions become real.

honestly it doesn't matter if your dedicated or extremely ambitious it just means your going to fail either way

you see the problem here is who your are if your 1 your lazy but you develop much faster often ahead of the curb in some cases, while 5 means though your active you never listen and you'll never improve, hell I've had a host of people like this I've seen that always give out bad advice and never take any that could help them improve, which is a crock of shit since they call themselves REAL artists, and ist just painful to see them act like something their not, one is the lesser of two evils but due to the fact that you never draw no one is inclined to believe you when you give out actually good advice, which is plain retarded, and gets even more so when your only incentive to do the work is when your assigned to

of course there is the middle ground of 3 which means you take criticism, and give out marginally useful advice (if not unrefined in thought), and always adjust accordingly but like all middle grounds its a fulcrum and it will always tilt one way or the other, either you get real good and just stop drawing all together or you become boastful jus because you nailed it once and indulged in the attention (like all fives do)

in the end its always a lose/lose no matter how much you try your unbalanced in some way and no one will improve because no one trusts the right person and everyone trust the wrong one

yeah unless people start trusting others just as much as they do these "snobs" our future as artists look pretty bleak

Answered 2, as of now, I only draw to relieve of stress, challenge or just for fun, not to mention the learning part behind it.

I started for kinda ground 0, and I'm still years away from doing anything awestrucking, but I can live with it. Time is all I need.
Time will also reveal if I'll make anything "ambitious" as stated with all of this. c:

Wish I could afford to spend more time on art. Unfortunately life and money dictate our existence in this modern world. So much talent, wasted by pathetic greedy politicians and their bad decisions. As soon as this world starts replacing money and greed with the betterment of human kind, art, in all it's forms will feed many nations. I rated a 4 as my 'ambition', being a conceptual notion, a desire, while in actuality if one does not have food to eat, one cannot buy canvas nor paint a masterpiece. I do however thank deviant art for doing what they can to make artists dreams come true. Always an inspiration to visit this site. Anyways, back to the daily grind. Oh, the artists who follow their dreams, how I admire you. Well done.

Interesting poll!

I didn't think there were as few people on either end of ambition when it comes to their own intuitive self-judgement. It kind of helps illustrate the creative framework of the human brain!

It's not like I'm going to get a job with art and I'm not aiming to become famous or anything grand like that.
I like drawing (ISH FUN) and it allows me to be patient with myself - that's all I ask.
Riik-ART Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2013

I wanna get better, but it's not really important to me, and I don't want to do it to get up higher in the art world or make cash.

0 ambition. I long ago accepted that I have no artistic talent.
ProfessorBats Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2013
Yay, another utterly stupid and useless question. Based on what? What's "ambition"? To sell your art and get rich? Be famous? Be good? Be productive?

Okay... I will try not to make this a hater comment, but c'mon people? You are not all 5s. I can garuntee it. Some of you are, but some of you... no. Don't say "Im a 5 because art is my life" thats not the question! Honestly, Im probably like a 2? Also, in my opinion its not what you draw, its how you draw it... like have you tried drawing how different artists draw? Have you tried Van Gough? Monet? Lichtenstein? Have you tried a painting made fully of dots? Or one maybe a mural that covers a building? If you have tried these things... you are a 6! I pretty much just draw in my school notebooks... so 1? 2? Im not a 5. Nt even close.
bladeholdin Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2013  Student Digital Artist
Ambition: An eager or strong desire to achieve something
You don't need to be a great artist to be a 5, you just need to have the DESIRE to do art. If art is your life, you definitely get a 5, because you really love art and it consumes your life. Seriously, people who only have art in school notebooks can get 5s too, if they still have that want to live art.
Liggliluff Featured By Owner Sep 29, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
This is the problem with 1 - 5.
You judge 6 as this things you bought up, but someone judge 5 as just drawing everyday.
This is a very stupid question... no, question is good, but very stupid answers.
Rating 1-5 is good if you're comparing you to yourself, as you're using your own scale, but this...?
