I actually think that the fact that there is SO much art surrounding us now (and hurrah to that!) will give us a wider range of comparison, so the good will actually stand out MORE. Of course, this may actually be a moot point since "good" is so subjective. Yes, there are definitely some universals to what good is, but there's still flexibility even within those agreements. Differences in style account for a lot of what is considered good and bad. Someone who loves hyper-realistic drawings might look at a splotchy expressionist work or an abstract piece and think it's bad simply because it fails to adhere to the codes of an entirely different style. I personally find it a waste of time to argue about what's good and bad. If you like it, you like it! And if you don't, you don't!

I feel like such a hypocrite now though because I have totally wandered through deviantart on many occasions and thought, "That one's bad. That one's bad. Oh man, THAT one is REALLY bad!" I guess there is kind of a... *minimum* level of quality that art should have in my opinion, with a lot of flexibility above that minimum.

Nah, no hypocrisy here. Unless you're thinking, "OMG how could anyone like this sh*t!?" ...Which I think a lot of the time when I look through the newest deviations. :P I think there's technically correct art, subjectively correct, and a combination. I might see something and appreciate the technique, subject, composition, whatever, but it doesn't really hold my attention. Then I see something that I really like but the piece is technically done in a way that bothers me and makes me have mixed emotions. :x Then I see something that is a good combination of both, leaving me in awe. :D

Yeah, I've definitely encountered pieces that were technically good, but they didn't move me. And I've encountered pieces that I thought were good ideas but could have been better executed. I imagine it's (fairly) easy to tell when an artist is going for an "incorrect" or non-technical style, and when an artist is just not there yet.

I think that the funny part is that the most voted on is the maybe answer...doesn't that tell us everything we want? That we ourselves together affect the future---If we want to be able to acces everything easy then we will just have to think of the consequenses won't we? Stop being afraid of life and start living it instead lol....Hope I made some sence xP

Of course people are going to say no. It's their precious art. But I think there's a danger.

The way I see it, we will better be able to understand what is good, bad, etc. because we will have so much more to compair too.
