I'm not liking the options on this one.
I do like the feature, but at the same time I think it leaves a lot to be desired. When I think of affiliating with another group, I think of something meant to bring different groups together. I'd expect something at least fairly meaningful to come out of an affiliation, such as a badge or some exclusive feature such as a cross-group chat within the Admin Area (which would help with collaborations and contests and such, so admin wouldn't have to spend forever finding and messaging other groups). Maybe even an optional widget that displays random works from an affiliated group's "Featured" folder. My examples are somewhat off-the-wall, but hopefully you get what I mean. At current, I feel like the groups are far to divided. The affiliation feature doesn't help bring the community together as I think it should.

I understand why it's there, but it's purpose goes largely unfulfilled. Especially among groups that like affiliating themselves with other groups, it becomes quickly unclear WHY they're affiliated. I think for group members who are interested to look for interesting communities, a short description would be lovely to show what could lie in store for fans of the original group.

What about the option "I like groups but I dont like that way its organized" ?

Because I find the feature nice but when I get inside a group I cant easily find the picture featured on the "group news slide". It annoys me. Also its not easy for people to find a drawing after its been stored there. It should have a search feature or something like that.

Searched for "groups" and "affiliates".
Found nothing.

Ok, I'm just a newbie, how I am supposed to know?

I love DeviantART, but it often feels like "What's this? How does it work? Where is the f...ine manual"?

It a year since you made this comment and I'm in the same boat. I find it very difficult to find information on deviantART features. I, like you did a search for affiliate affiliates and other variations and the search yielded nothing. I would love ot see a helpful help section on dA.

I understand your difficulties.

In the meanwhile I learnt a lot of things about DA and how it works, but it's indeed a long path of trials and errors... as an advice, I would invite you to start investigating groups, by subscribing to some of your interest. There's much to learn from that.
