All of the above :)

All of the above. Question, though: where do the poorly shot, close-up photos of female genitalia listed as "artistic nude" fall in this list? My guess would be "Contains your favorite subject".

+1 for that.

There is more than one great piece of art in the world so my opinion of why it's great would change from image to image.

All but I think style and execution goes first for me.

I said "An ingenious Concept" because those concepts always seem to contain the "Ability to stir deep emotion and connection". :)

how about… strong use of color… shape… composition…

i give up.

Original and interesting concept.

I love concept especially when a joke is made like Peking duck they showed a duck peeking on some girl who's skirt blew up and it was hilarious but I also love those concepts that seemed to be just out of my reach that could be real if I just stretched my arm a little farther. One day I saw a painting of some blond haired kid sitting on a rock looking up seeing every kind of fish you could imagine in the world and on top of the picture you can see the surface of the ocean.Just wow.
yukimujaki68 Featured By Owner May 8, 2010   Digital Artist
there should be an all of the above option :(
alooper21 Featured By Owner May 8, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
no, there shouldn't be, because most voters, beying too lazy to think, would vote for that option. i fall for the "ingenuous concept", bacause i've seen plain sketches that were just awesome!
yukimujaki68 Featured By Owner May 8, 2010   Digital Artist
i voted for ingenious option as well. but i would have chosen any of the others too. because all of that really does appeal to me in art :). and this is dA. im theres alot of people who would choose any of the individual options as well as all of the above.

"Contains your favorite subject"

if that was it, I wouldn't even bother being here. I'd be to busy looking in a mirror.

I think stuff that impacts your emotions is what I consider a great piece of art.
But at the same time it's gotta have a nice style that fits with what emotion the artist is trying to convey.
I think something that delivers a message of some sort is great too.
It's very hard to decide :[

I'm torn between "ability to stir deep emotion and connection," "beautiful style and execution," and "an ingenious concept"..

Hello there friend. Can you spare a minute?Pointless Rambling? Oh my, don't get me started on pointless rambling. Pointless rambling is just so.... pointless.... and.... ramble-istic! I can pointlessly ramble all day. In fact, did you know that Eminem is the greatest pointless rambler ever[Citation not needed at all; thank you very much]? Speaking of Eminem, I like the candy that was named after him. I wonder what would happen if he changed his name to Skittle.... hmmm. Oh, I could wonder all day about candy and rappers. Hey, candy and rappers! Candy rappers! Get it? They're like, rappers named after candy, and it's such a wonderful pun. Candy, wrappers. <eyebrow movements> If you don't get it, it means like, "candy wrappers", which are those paper things that go around your candy. Now I want some candy. Who else wants some candy? Because I want some candy! Who doesn't want candy? Once I knew a guy one, he hated candy. Really, I don't know how that's possible. There's like supposed to be something in mammal phylegony (did I spell that right?) that makes it so that everybody likes candy. Except maybe him, I realised, once I met him. Or maybe he is lying. I don't know if I told you this before, but I hate liers. And people with bad spelling. They absolutely ruin the chance of an article looking falsely serious to be funny. Phylogeny's a funny word. It's like 'phylo' and 'geny' together... Filo and Genie, get it? No I guess you don't. Ooh, look, squeriils!!!

Well, back to subject. What was that again? Oh yes, about pointless rambling. Yes, pointless rambling... oh, where do I start on pointless rambling? Let's see. Ah, yes, I know....

Eh. I just felt like putting this in here out of my boredom. I'm bored. And hungry. Bored and hungry. Maybe I should eat something fun like.... Lucky Charms! They're magically delicious, and magic is fun. It's food too, so it solves all your problems. I might find the cure for cancer through the power of Lucky Charms one day! Cancer is also a yummy form of crab. It's also a zodiac sign. But I don't have that sign, unfortunately. Do you know what else is a good sign? A stop sign. It has big white letters that allow the driver to think about how calming it is, before they go into oncoming traffic. Speaking of traffic, how many people go on Uncyclopedia a day? I would pay good money to find out. Speaking of money, have you ever seen a 5 dollar coin? Those things would be so sweet... change in my pocket. Have you ever gone swimming, and in the water there is a pocket of air in your swimsuit? Neither have I, but I have seen it. Dang, it would suck if I was blind. Then I could not look at any of these pages. How many pages does the Harry Potter books have? Bet it's at least a hundred or something. Might wanna go check someday.

And you know hat else is magical besides Lucky Charms? Wizards. They're magical, and darn awesome. I mean, for any magic/unexplained thing, you can just say "A wizard did it!" or something, and it'll make sense. You know what else makes sense? I dunno. Puppies, puppies, I guess make sense. Like, I dunno. What relates to this subject? Puppies now, I guess? Well, puppies... well, don't even get STARTED with puppies. Trust me, I've been there, and it's a bad road. Horrible... horrible. Trust me. In fact, it's so horrible, I'm going to drop the subject entirely

A combination of "ability to stir deep emotion and connection", "beautiful style and execution", and especially "portrayal of an important message"
Cri-Kee Featured By Owner May 7, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I think concept and execution are extremely important, but the true and most fascinating quality of good art is the ability to make you feel and connect to it :) so I guess that's what appeals me the most.
TheNightRider Featured By Owner May 7, 2010
Bo, that was a had one, because each ne help each other. u truly cant have one without the other.. But i chose beutiful style and execution.
strangelittlebelle Featured By Owner May 7, 2010
It's mostly about the style of it. It could be a character/concept/theme I've never heard of and if its just that awesome I'll love it.

Really, none of those options. I like art with a bit of personality, where you can see that the artist has put a little of theselves into their work.
Asrath Featured By Owner May 7, 2010  Student General Artist
for anyone who cares I clicked "an ingenious concept"

c'mon DA, why isn't there an "edit" button ಠ_ಠ
would save lot of trouble... (not really a lot, but I like to make an nuisance for nothing)
but still, edit button for comments WOULD be nice...

I agree

Sometimes I type a comment and I put like :giggl instead of :giggle: and im like grr I wanna fix itt

yea, I often think of things to add to my comments... AFTER I clicked "send" >.>
or spelling mistakes and such...
DragonRichard Featured By Owner May 9, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
DA really need an edit button
Asrath Featured By Owner May 7, 2010  Student General Artist
difficult, I think, personally, that it is a mixture of all above in just the right amount to create the "perfect cocktail of good art"
and ofc its also your own taste! that's why there is such a huge variety in art ^^
SynthDroid Featured By Owner May 7, 2010
I personally think it's style and execution. If you had a choice between two pictures, one from a Japanese Manga Artist and one from an American Cartoonist, both with the same concept and subject, which one would you pick based on style and execution?
An overwhelming majority would choose the Japanese Picture. The style is Popular and Modern and uses brilliant colors and attention to detail.

Not to put down my own art style, but let's face it: The Japanese do make some pretty damn good art nowadays.
RoughThief Featured By Owner May 7, 2010
Uhhh where's the option for "none of the above"?
habib03 Featured By Owner May 7, 2010
id say the way a persons art can make you imagine yourself inside that work or within its concept regardless of whether its coloured or not...
